With free agency in the NBA just around the corner, some teams have already made some moves. There are trade rumors surrounding the New York Knicks and center Mitchell Robinson. There are also questions about whether the Knicks will re-sign Isaiah Hartenstein.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Hartenstein is expected to return to the Knicks, and the team has already contacted other teams about moving Robinson. But should the Knicks trade Robinson? The answer is yes.
Trading Robinson would be the best thing for the Knicks. While he's one of the Knicks' best players, and he has two years and about $27.3 million left on his current deal, the big man has been unable to stay healthy. Robinson has played in only 90 games and 6-of-13 playoff games since his extension, averaging just 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 31 regular-season games and six playoff games this season.
So, where could Robinson go in a trade? The Lakers, Grizzlies, and Pelicans are some teams that are monitoring the center position this offseason. Other possibilities include the Bucks, Hawks, Jazz, and Pistons. The best landing spot for Robinson seems to be with the Pelicans, which would bring him back to his native hometown of New Orleans. In a hypothetical trade, I could see the Pelicans getting Robinson and a future draft pick from the Knicks, and the Knicks get Larry Nance Jr. and a future draft pick from the Pelicans. As for Robinson going to the Pelicans, he would replace Jonas Valančiūnas, who is entering free agency and not expected to return.
