The Baltimore Ravens have made a major move to bolster their defense, acquiring star pass rusher Maxx Crosby in a blockbuster trade that immediately reshapes the AFC landscape. Known for his relentless motor and elite edge pressure, Crosby arrives in Baltimore as one of the league’s most disruptive defensive players, giving the Ravens another elite weapon on a defense that has long been the identity of the franchise.
For Baltimore, the addition of Crosby signals a clear push toward championship contention. His ability to consistently pressure quarterbacks, set the edge against the run, and play with nonstop intensity fits perfectly with the Ravens’ defensive philosophy. Pairing Crosby with Baltimore’s already physical defensive front could create nightmares for opposing offenses and reestablish the Ravens as one of the most feared defenses in the NFL.
While the Ravens are committing significant resources to acquire Crosby, the long-term structure of his contract offers flexibility. Crosby is signed through the 2029 season, though his deal currently carries no guaranteed money beyond 2026, effectively making it a year-to-year commitment for Baltimore. His three-year, $106.5 million extension, agreed to last offseason, does not begin until the 2027 season, giving the Ravens time before the most expensive portion of the contract kicks in. In exchange, the Raiders will receive Baltimore's first-round draft picks in the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts.
With the addition of Crosby, the Baltimore Ravens may now be forced to address the contract situation of franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson sooner rather than later. Baltimore is currently working with a relatively tight cap situation — reportedly in the range of roughly $9–11 million in available space — which makes absorbing Crosby’s salary challenging without creating additional financial flexibility. One of the most realistic ways to accomplish that is by restructuring or extending Jackson’s deal, spreading his cap hit across future seasons.
Because of that, the Crosby trade could be a strong indicator that Jackson’s next contract move is already in motion behind the scenes. Extending the two-time MVP would give the Ravens the cap relief needed to comfortably fit Crosby’s contract while continuing to build around a championship-caliber roster. If that’s the plan, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a Jackson extension finalized in the coming days as Baltimore works to align its finances with its aggressive push to add star talent on defense. So I expect to receive news that the Lamar deal is done within the next week or so.
Trade Grade: A+
Acquiring Crosby significantly strengthens the team’s defensive front by adding one of the NFL’s most productive and disruptive edge rushers. Crosby has established himself as an elite pass rusher through his consistent ability to generate pressure, record sacks, and impact opposing offenses on a weekly basis. His relentless style of play and durability align well with Baltimore’s defensive identity, making him a natural fit within the organization’s aggressive approach on that side of the ball.
There is also the possibility that defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike could return to the defensive front, which would further strengthen Baltimore’s interior presence. Pairing Madubuike’s interior pressure with Crosby’s elite edge rushing would give the Ravens a formidable combination in the trenches. Together, their ability to collapse the pocket from both the inside and outside could reestablish Baltimore’s defensive line as one of the most feared units in the league. Financially, Crosby’s contract provides the Ravens with long-term stability at a premium position while still allowing room for roster management through potential restructures or extensions elsewhere.
