Washington Commanders hire Dan Quinn

The Washington Commanders are hiring Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their next head coach. Quinn replaces Ron Rivera who was fired one day after the season ended and could replace Quinn in Dallas, according to ESPN. He had been the Cowboys defensive coordinator for the last three seasons. Under Quinn, the Cowboys led the NFL with 93 forced turnovers and ranked a combined fifth in points and seventh in yards.

This isn’t the first time that Quinn has been a head coach. He was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015 to 2020. In 2016 he led the Falcons to the Super Bowl, but they lost to the New England Patriots.

Quinn will have a lot of work to do with the Commanders. This season the Commanders were 4-13, haven’t had a winning record since 2016, and haven’t won a playoff game since 2005. The Commanders are hoping that Quinn can help their defensive struggles. The Commanders' defense finished last in total defense this season. Quinn will also help decide who their quarterback will be. The Commanders have the number two overall pick in the draft and could select a young quarterback if they feel that current quarterback Sam Howell isn’t their guy.

If Quinn can turn things around for the Commanders then this will be a good hire. If not then the Commanders will need a new head coach.
