The Carolina Panthers Versus The Atlanta Falcons: More Chaos?

The Carolina Panthers will take on the Falcons on Thursday Night Football. This game will be the second time these two teams meet in two weeks. Let's Preview the Thursday night match-up where the Atlanta Falcons will take on the Carolina Panthers.

Fire New Panthers Helmets

Before the implications get described, Carolina announced on July 19th that the Panthers would wear their black helmets sometime during the 2022 NFL Season. These helmets will make their debut in this match-up versus the Falcons. For the Panthers, this game will be a "blackout game."

Last Time These Two Teams Met: Chaos

These two clubs met last in Week 8 of the 2022 NFL season. The game ended with Atlanta edging out a win. This game was the most memorable from that week. The Panthers lost that game partly because of a DJ Moore penalty for taking his helmet off, even though Jalen Ramsey did the same thing the following week.

But Moore's catch did save Carolina in that game. The big reason why the Panthers lost that game was Eddy Piñeiro missing a 33-yard extra point, which would've been 15 yards if Moore hadn't been flagged. If Piñeiro didn't miss that kick, Carolina would've most likely won and been in first place in the division. Then in overtime, Piñeiro missed a 32-yard field goal that went wide left. So the Panthers are most likely seeking revenge against their bitter rival in this game.

NFC South Division Implications

If Atlanta wins, they need the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose to retain the sole lead of the division. (The Bucs take on the Seattle Seahawks in Germany at 9:30 am EST). On the other hand, if the Panthers win and the New Orleans Saints lose, the Saints would be tied for last. (The Saints take on the Steelers at 1:00).

Could the Panthers Theoretically Take the Divison Lead?

Looking at the NFC South division, Carolina is only two games back from first place (the Tampa Buccaneers are currently in first). So can Carolina take the division lead? The Panthers would have to win both of their next three games and have the Falcons, Saints, and Bucs lose.
