The time has finally come in Green Bay! Over the weekend, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers reached an agreement on a four-year, 220 million-dollar extension with a 75 million-dollar signing bonus, making the Utah State product the highest-paid player in league history for the time being.
While the Packers and Love expected an extension to be reached by the start of training camp, that didn't happen, but the Packers and Love got something done fairly for both sides that locks in QB1 for the foreseeable future in Green Bay! Love is coming off his first year as a starter in Green Bay and was able to lead the youngest team in league history to not only the playoffs but upset a Dallas Cowboys team on the road. Love would throw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in his first year starting. With a young but talent-filled core in Green Bay this upcoming year, Love will rely on multiple targets in Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Malik Heath, Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, Josh Jacobs, AJ Dillon, and MarShawn Lloyd. Those are a lot of names mentioned, but when you look at this team, any one of them can take over a game at any time, which makes this young roster so effective and scary to the rest of the league. This coming year, the Packers now have an even younger average age on their roster and will look to continue their success and see if they can get over that NFC Championship game leap.
My thoughts: When Love and the Packers decided to make him the team's future last season, there were a lot of unknowns. This would include his play, leadership, attitude, and work ethic. Since the first time those questions were raised, there wasn't a doubt in any of those traits ever again. While the offense started slowly last season, Love got them into a groove, and you saw a team truly rally around their leader. Love would lead them to the playoffs, knock off the Dallas Cowboys on the road, and be one-half away from beating the 49ers to go to the NFC Championship game. Love proved why you had to pay him the money they did, and he has been a true professional through and through for the Packers.
Not only did he never hold out, but Love has been at every event he needed to be and all of the voluntary work. Off the field, Love is taking over the Donald Driver Charity Softball Game, which also shows the person they have off the field in Love. To me, this is a homerun hit, and how can you say the Packers are wrong in this situation when they have gone from Favre to Rodgers and now to Love? They clearly know what they are doing.
