If you are an NFL fan, you may have seen a new group influence your social media timeline or NFL News—Swifties (otherwise known as fans of Taylor Swift). Swifties, you may be confused about how football became a thing; I will now take you through the basic history of football.
Brief History Of American Football
American Football has roots in two sports: Rugby and Soccer (Rugby and Soccer are like Taylor's parents).
In the 1880s, a great rugby player from Yale, Walter Camp, pioneered rules that would slowly change Rugby to American Football (this is like when Taylor went from Country to Pop).
The first-ever college football game was held between Rutgers and Princeton on November 6th, 1869. This can be compared to Swift's first country hit, "Tim McGraw".
However, the first-ever NFL game was held on October 3rd, 1920 (Back when the NFL was the APFA, American Pro Football Association) between the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles. As for Swift, this is like her first pop hit, "You Belong With Me" (She is on the bleachers now).
Now, we get into something called NFL lore (103 years of this. NFL Lore is like the end of the "Look What You Made Me" music video where all the Taylor Swift characters come together. There have been a total of 49 NFL teams that have folded over 100 years of NFL lore. There's a debate among NFL fans (who did not start watching football after the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears game) about who is the best QB (this is similar to a group of Swifties debating the greatest Taylor song of all time).
Chiefs History
The Chiefs originally were known as the Dallas Texans (1960-1962). However, in 1963, Lamar Hunt (The owner) moved the Chiefs to Kansas City, where they have stayed ever since. The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls and three AFL (American Football League) championships (equivalent to Grammy's).
Their first-ever NFL game (this is like Taylor's debut album 2006) was a 21-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers (shake it off, Kansas City, it's your first game). The first win in team history was on September 9th, 1960, a 34-16 win over the Oakland Raiders (this is the equivalent to Taylor Swift the Album being produced). The first winning season for Kansas City was in 1960 (this is like the success that came after the Taylor Swift Album).
This is the very basics of NFL history and Kansas City Chiefs history. Now, Swifties, you can enjoy football with background knowledge of how the Chiefs and the NFL got to where they are today (much like Taylor's rise to fame).
