When you look at Asauni Allen, you see a few things that show out through his film. Some words to describe his game would be versatility, consistency, and a sure tackler. I was able to sit down and get to know more about Asauni. He will be valuable to any team in a variety of areas. When asked who impacted his career most, he quickly answered: “My parents, but my great grandma. She has been there my whole life, she has supported me and came to all of my games. She stayed there for me through everything and has had a tremendous impact on my football journey.” His family means a lot to him, and he knows how much they have given to him as well. That first answer speaks to the character of Asauni, whom I was able to get to know.

Starting with the first part of his game, Allen is versatile. He plays safety, cornerback, all phases of special teams, even his senior season. Additionally, Allen was used at various points in certain offensive packages. Allen played three years at Colgate as a cornerback while switching to Safety his Senior year simply because “It’s what the team needed, and whatever the team needed I told them I would do.” Not only is his mentality great on the field, but Allen also knows how to get ahead of the competition off of the field. He went to Colgate, which has an acceptance rate of 12%. Allen is someone that General Managers would be getting as a hard worker both on and off the field, as well as someone who has talent, but also the off-the-field film studying already put into his routine.

At Colgate, Allen said their defensive scheme was able to help prepare him for the NFL due to his ability to be in a defense that ran a lot of quarters. When in a quarters scheme, it allows safety to run fit, which Allen excels in because of his speed and ability to crash down to make sure he tackles. That translates into his game, in which he would compare himself to Jordan Whitehead due to “his ability to run fit, as well as his IQ on the field really translates into his game.” He also mentions current Green Bay Packer and North Carolina native Jaire Alexander. “He’s a smaller, North Carolina native, I know his cousins, but the part of his game that sticks out to me is his IQ as well.” As someone who went to Colgate, Allen prides himself on knowing his place before the play happens because it gives him that edge over the opponents as well. I asked him to break down his thought process when he is pre-snap. He would tell me, “I would look at the formation of course, check the eyes of the Quarterback, and just think about the tendancies of the team that I have studied. I also think about the leverage and the depth in the route recognition based on who I’m guarding. I usually will be guarding a Tight End at Free Safety, so I look to see if he’s going to wham over or run a route at me. At that point, it allows me to just go play ball and make a play.”

Allen's film study is a big part of his preparation and training ahead of the draft. He's currently working on all of the Pro Day drills and ensuring he will run in the 4.4-4.5 range for the 40-yard dash. For safety, he realizes that coming from a small school, he needs that time to stand out, and he is doing everything he can in order to be as ready as possible for his Pro Day, which will take place at Stony Brook University on March 26th.
